My printer isn’t working, what should I do?

1. Verify that your printer is turned on and online:

  • The printer is plugged into an outlet that has power.
  • The power switch on the printer is turned on (look for a light).
  • The printer is online and not set to offline use in the printer settings. (On most printers, a light next to the online button indicates online status.)

2. Verify that your printer is supplied with paper, toner, and any other required supplies:

  • There is paper in the printer.
  • The printer is free of paper jams.
  • There is sufficient toner, a fresh ink cartridge, or ribbon in the printer.

3. Reset your printer to clear the printer memory:

  • Turn the printer off
  • Wait 10 seconds
  • Turn the printer back on
  • Try to print your document

4. Reboot your computer (Write down these instructions first):

  • Shut Down your computer operating system
  • Turn off the power switch
  • Wait 30 seconds
  • Turn your computer on
  • Try to print again

What should I do if I think my computer has been infected by a virus?

1. Do not open any email attachments or send any email, shut down your email program.

2. If you have a virus protection software installed on your computer:

  • Update virus definitions
  • Run a scan to detect and remove the infection

3. If you do NOT have virus protection software installed on your computer:

  • Visit our Anti-Virus Resource Center for additional information and tools.

How do I stop those annoying pop-up windows from my browser?

Install the FREE Google Toolbar with advanced features checked. The pop-up blocker in the Toolbar Options menu prevents new windows from automatically opening when you visit a website.

How do I know if there are any adware or spyware components on my computer?

Install a privacy tool that scans your computer to detect any adware/spyware related issues. AdAware is a great privacy tool, that scans your memory, registry, hard, removable and optical drives for known data-mining, aggressive advertising, and tracking components. It then lists the results and offers to remove or quarantine the components.
